The 2026 World Cup Final is set to feature an extra dose of entertainment. FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that British band Coldplay, led by Chris Martin, will be the first confirmed act for the halftime show of the decisive match.
This marks the first time in World Cup history that a musical spectacle will take place during the final's halftime - following the NFL-style tradition successfully tested at the 2025 Club World Cup Final, which featured performances by J Balvin, Doja Cat, Tems, and Coldplay.
What Infantino said about the show
Speaking at the Semafor World Economy event, Infantino revealed: "We will have the first halftime show in history with the presence of Chris Martin and Coldplay. I can't tell you yet which other artists will perform, but there will be more than one, and it will be the biggest show in history."
The FIFA chief made it clear that the performance will be on a massive scale, with Coldplay serving as the first announced name. More international artists are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.
Celebrities from other sports also involved
Infantino also hinted that FIFA plans to bring in major figures from other sports to make the 2026 World Cup an even bigger global event: "We are involving all kinds of celebrities you can imagine, from other sports. I mean, Tom Brady, Shaquille O'Neal, etc." The goal is to turn the tournament into a mega-spectacle that combines top-level soccer, music, and entertainment on an unprecedented scale.
A different kind of World Cup
With 48 teams, official hydration breaks, and now a halftime show at the Final, the 2026 World Cup is breaking new ground. Coldplay's performance at the biggest match in world soccer will generate even more excitement among fans worldwide - especially in the host countries Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
Mexican fans are already dreaming of seeing their national team reach that final and enjoying a world-class show that blends the best of soccer and international music. For now, Coldplay has secured its spot for what promises to be the most important night in world soccer in 2026.
