The baddest woman on the planet is back in the wrestling entertainment industry. In a new move that has caught many fans completely off guard, Ronda Rousey made a stunning debut at AEW Revolution on Sunday night, appearing in the ring for the first time since her 2023 departure from WWE.
Her appearence took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, just days after she was seen promoting her MMA return against Gina Carano, which will stream live on Netflix. For a star who recently claimed she was pretty much retired from the ring, the Sunday night surprise felt like a sweet treat.
An unexpected return from Rousey
The moment of truth in the show occurred after a match between Toni Storm and Marina Shafir. As Storm celebrated her victory at the top of the ramp, Rousey bypassed security to enter the ring, forcing the multi-time AEW Women's World Champion to return.
The atmosphere was as incredibly electric as it was polarizing. As the two stars shared a tense staredown in the center of the ring, security personnel rushed to separate the women before the encounter could turn physical.
In the confusion of the moment, Shafir took advantage of the distraction to clock Storm from behind, leaving her unconscious as Shafir and Rousey exited through the crowd. Cinema if you ask me.
Combining AEW, MMA and Netflix
What makes this return even more surprising is the timing ifself. Rousey is currently in the middle of a massive training camp for her first MMA fight in nearly a decade. She is set to face Gina Carano on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, an event that will stream live globally on Netflix.
AEW President Tony Khan addressed the appearance during the post-show press conference, noting that while Rousey has wrestled for sister-promotion ROH in the past, she will always be welcomed in AEW.
This cameo also caught many in the WWE locker room off guard. While a few close friends were aware of the it, the majority of the company was stunned to see one of WWE's former biggest draws standing in a rival ring.
