Olympic glory at the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Games was painted in red, white, and blue thanks to an unprecedented performance by the United States women's ice hockey team after defeating Canada 2-1.

The road to gold was not easy. After two periods of intense physical battle, Canada held a slim lead. However, with the clock winding down and only two minutes left to play, team captain and legend Hilary Knight appeared to deflect a shot that tied the game at 1-1. In sudden death, defenseman Megan Keller became a national hero by scoring the "golden goal" at 4:07 of overtime.

This victory not only represented the program's historic third gold medal but also crowned an undefeated tournament in which the Americans dominated their rivals with a combined score of 33-2 across seven games.

Jason and Travis Kelce celebrate the dominance of "the hockey capital of the world"

The impact of this triumph reached the ears of the NFL's most famous brothers. In the latest episode of their podcast, Jason and Travis Kelce set football aside to pay special tribute to the champions.

"The hockey capital of the world," Jason said. "I mean, man, we're gold in men's and women's. The best country on the planet at hockey."

The brothers shared anecdotes about spending time with the players during the Winter Games. "We had the opportunity to meet that entire team. We also hung out with them after the men won gold in the back room. They're a great team. They're very close. They joke with each other. I'm just really proud of all of them," Travis said.

A highlighted moment in their conversation was recognition for Laila Edwards, the first African American woman to represent the U.S. hockey team at an Olympic Games and a proud native of Cleveland Heights, the Kelce brothers' hometown. Jason did not hold back in praising his fellow local athlete.

"I'll just say this, Laila, I've got two banners hanging in the Cleveland Heights hockey rink."

Jason added that Edwards embodies the spirit of her community: "She was very, very good throughout the entire Olympics and in the games. One of the things you notice after talking to her is that she really is from 'The Heights.' She has that humility, but she's also a great person, and that becomes very clear when you talk to her."

Despite the sporting joy, the victory became surrounded by significant media controversy. While the men's team celebrated its gold medal by attending the State of the Union address as guests of Donald Trump, the women's team took a different stance. The women's team cited prior academic and professional commitments as reasons for not attending.
