The Tennessee Titans have released veteran cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, a move that clears roughly $11.4 million in salary-cap space as the team reshapes its secondary.
Sneed struggled to stay on the field during his time in Tennessee, appearing in just 12 games across two seasons after the team acquired him in a 2024 trade with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Titans later signed Sneed to a four-year, $76 million contract, but injuries and declining production prevented the deal from delivering the impact Tennessee hoped for when it added the veteran defensive back.
The 29-year-old entered the 2025 season on the physically unable to perform list while recovering from a knee procedure and dealing with a lingering quad injury.
Injuries plagued Sneed in 2025
Sneed ultimately appeared in seven games before suffering another quad injury in Week 7 against the New England Patriots, which forced him onto injured reserve and sidelined him for the final 10 games of the season.
Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi acknowledged during the scouting combine that Sneed's recovery had been difficult.
"Frustrating for him," Borgonzi said. "But he's continued to work and get himself healthy."
When he did play in 2025, Sneed's production was limited. According to Pro Football Focus, he ranked 105th among 114 qualified cornerbacks during the season.
Sneed's 2025 stats
- 26 total tackles
- 18 solo tackles
- 3 passes defended
The Titans have already begun reshaping their cornerback group. Earlier this week, Tennessee added defensive backs Alontae Taylor, Cor'Dale Flott and Josh Williams as part of an effort to replenish the secondary.
Sneed will enter free agency with uncertainty
Before joining Tennessee, Sneed built a strong résumé with Kansas City. The Chiefs selected him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he played a key role in the franchise's defense during a successful four-year run that included two Super Bowl championships.
Now entering free agency again, Sneed will look to regain his form - and health - after a difficult stint in Tennessee cut short what once appeared to be a major investment in the Titans' defense.
