Sam Darnold's journey through the NFL reached its most satisfying point on Sunday night, as the Seattle Seahawks defeated the New England Patriots 29-13 at Levi's Stadium to secure the quarterback's first Super Bowl title.

The win marked the end of a season that reshaped Darnold's standing in the league and delivered Seattle its second championship with him at the helm.

Signed during the offseason, he quickly settled into a roster built on balance and defensive strength. In his first year with the Seahawks, he led the team through the NFC and all the way to a Super Bowl victory, completing one of the league's more unexpected turnarounds.

The championship performance itself did not require fireworks. Darnold played within the structure of the game, avoided costly errors, and allowed Seattle's defense and special teams to control the contest.

By the final whistle, the Seahawks were champions and Darnold's long pursuit of validation had ended with a ring.

Social media exchange adds edge to championship night

Not everyone reacted to the moment with applause. Shortly after the game, Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua posted a brief message on X that many interpreted as a dig at the new Super Bowl winner.

"Sam Darnold," Nacua wrote, adding a laughing emoji.

The comment was widely seen as a reaction to Darnold claiming a championship before several high-profile quarterbacks, including Drake Maye, Lamar Jackson, and Josh Allen, all of whom are still chasing their first Super Bowl ring. The timing of the post drew attention, particularly given the Rams' absence from the game.

Nacua's message did not go unanswered. Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones, who previously played alongside Nacua in Los Angeles, responded sharply.

"Ain't you at home," Jones wrote on X>. "Goofy a**."

The exchange carried extra weight because Seattle's path to the Super Bowl ran directly through Los Angeles. The Seahawks eliminated the Rams with a 31-27 win in the conference championship game, ending Nacua's season and sending Darnold's team on to the final.
