The Eagles' bold move to reclaim a lost throne; Nick Sirianni spares no changes to his coaching staff

A painful playoff defeat was enough to trigger significant changes within the franchise

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the start of the 2025 season with expectations at their highest point. However, it quickly became evident that they no longer possessed the same level of consistency that had carried them to the championship in 2024.

Despite boasting an abundance of elite talent, the Eagles' offense stalled and failed to find solutions to the persistent issues that plagued them throughout the season, problems that ultimately culminated in a wild-card loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Philadelphia's steep decline during the 2025 campaign was impossible to ignore, compounded by the struggles of key players such as Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown. The franchise from the City of Brotherly Love finished 24th overall in the NFL, far removed from the top-10 standard to which it had grown accustomed.

They averaged 311.2 total yards per game and scored 22.3 points per contest, ranking 19th in that category. In previous years, the balance they achieved between the running game and the passing attack had been instrumental in lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, that formula unraveled in 2025. The team fell all the way to 23rd in rushing offense, a dramatic drop that underscored its offensive regression.

Changes arrive for the Philadelphia Eagles

The front office was left frustrated by what unfolded in the postseason, prompting swift action and significant changes to Nick Sirianni's staff.

Offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo was dismissed after just one season in the role. The unit had become rigid and highly predictable, lacking the creativity necessary to adapt as opponents adjusted.

As a result, the organization looked elsewhere and landed on Sean Mannion, who was announced in late January as the new offensive coordinator after arriving from the Green Bay Packers.

More changes following Sean Mannion's arrival

With Mannion now in full control of the offense, the franchise continues to explore additional options to reinforce the staff and restore the prominence lost during the 2025 season.

According to information reported by Ian Rapoport, Philadelphia is set to hire coach Ryan Mahaffey as its run-game and tight ends coordinator. Mahaffey also comes from the Packers and is expected to play a meaningful role in improving that area.

Mahaffey brings proven NFL experience, though his coaching career began at the collegiate level. He joined Green Bay in 2021 in quality control, later served as assistant offensive line coach, and most recently worked as a wide receivers coach.

His arrival will complement Mannion's staff, and expectations are that he can provide the creativity needed to help the Eagles develop a more dangerous, balanced offense.
