Matt Nagy is widely regarded as one of the architects of the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty. Following a disappointing 2025 season, the highly sought-after offensive coordinator may return to the team that gave him his first coaching opportunity-the Philadelphia Eagles.

Nagy is considered one of the NFL's premier offensive minds. During his tenure under head coach Andy Reid, the Chiefs captured three Super Bowl titles, while Patrick Mahomes earned two regular-season MVP awards.

With his contract in Kansas City expiring this year, Nagy is exploring new opportunities. Although he is aiming for a head coaching position, insiders suggest that fate could lead him back to Philadelphia.

Could Nagy coach Jalen Hurts in 2026?

On a recent episode of NFL Game Day, NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo speculated that Nagy could become the Eagles' next offensive coordinator.

"Nagy chose not to sign his contract last offseason, entering the head coaching cycle. If not as a head coach, he could land elsewhere as a playcaller," Garafolo explained.

"He remains a free agent who could wind up elsewhere-perhaps back in Philadelphia, where he began his coaching career," Garafolo added.

Although nothing is official, Kevin Patullo's departure has created a vacancy that Nagy is more than qualified to fill. Just as he helped Mahomes reach elite status, Nagy could guide Jalen Hurts and the Eagles toward the Super Bowl they've been chasing.

Nagy's Philadelphia roots

It's worth remembering that Philadelphia gave Nagy his first opportunity in coaching, first as an intern, then as an assistant, and later as an offensive quality control coach.

In 2013, Nagy joined the Chiefs, initially as quarterbacks coach, before serving as offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017. Between 2018 and 2021, he was head coach of the Chicago Bears, a tenure that produced mixed results.

Nagy returned to Kansas City in 2022 as a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach. In 2023, he was promoted to offensive coordinator under Andy Reid, a role he held until this offseason.
