- Eagles. Dr. Jesse Morse just gave bad news to Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, stars of the Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles are targeting Matt Nagy for their offensive coordinator vacancy, hoping the Kansas City Chiefs' man can restore stability after a 2025 NFL campaign defined by inconsistency and stalled drives.
The 47-year-old interviewed for the role on Wednesday, January 21 as he looks for a return to the Lincoln Financial Field, where he began his career in the professional game under Andy Reid, eventually serving as an offense quality control coach until 2012 before moving to KC.
Philadelphia's offense began to struggle after Kellen Moore left for the New Orleans Saints following Super Bowl 59 as Kevin Patullo filled the void.
The promotion seemed logical, but the unit could not regain the efficiency it had under Moore's direction as big plays were followed by stalled drives, adjustments came too late, and the offense never found a consistent rhythm.
Despite finishing 11-6 and winning the NFC East, the Eagles' production dropped to 24th in total yards and 19th in points per game as frustration also emerged off the field.
Wide receiver A.J. Brown reportedly clashed with Sirianni and quarterback Jalen Hurts, highlighting the internal strain caused by the inconsistent offense and signaling the need for a coordinator who can unify the team. Patullo did not prove to be that man.
"I think it's important we continue to evolve as an offense and go out and do what's best for this football team," head coach Nick Sirianni said, via Zack Berman. "Kevin Patullo helped build this offense, but the timing demanded change."
Chiefs set for Bieniemy reunion as Nagy prepares for exit
Meanwhile, as Nagy explores opportunities in Philadelphia, the Chiefs are preparing to rehire Eric Bieniemy as their offensive coordinator as they look to solve offensive problems of their own.
Despite boasting Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, the passing game struggled as a symptom of a virtually non-existent running game at the Arrowhead Stadium as the team slumped to a 6-11 record.
And according to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, Reid will link back up with Bieniemy, who coached the Chicago Bears' running backs in 2025 after a stop with the Washington Commanders.
He had previously spent a decade with the Chiefs under Reid, beginning as the running backs coach from 2013-2017 before being promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018, Mahomes' first full season as a starter.
His previous tenure was highly successful. The Chiefs never finished lower than sixth in points per game under his guidance, winning two Super Bowls and reaching a third, while Mahomes earned two regular-season MVP awards.
Nagy replaced Bieniemy at the end of the 2021/2022 NFL season, but his contract expired following the 2025 season.
The Chiefs quickly requested to interview the Bears' man, with the expectation he will return swiftly to Missouri.
Though Bieniemy returns to familiar surroundings, the Chiefs still face questions about Mahomes' ACL recovery and Travis Kelce's future.
His return is expected to provide leadership and restore offensive efficiency heading into the next season.
