- NFL. Tom Brady takes on greater responsibility with Raiders while attending to more important matters
A.J. Brown asked to be traded multiple times during the 2025 NFL season, according to new reporting, a revelation that underscores how strained the Philadelphia Eagles' offence had become behind the scenes.
Questions about the relationship between Brown and quarterback Jalen Hurts followed the Eagles throughout the year, but the extent of the tension only became clearer late in the season.
On Friday, The Athletic's Mike Green reported that Hurts had become a "source of internal frustration" among teammates, a claim that suggested the issues went beyond one player or one position.
Soon after, Bleeding Green Nation added another layer to the story, reporting that Brown had privately sought a way out on several occasions.
The report painted a picture of an offence struggling with more than execution. Even during stretches when Philadelphia was winning, dissatisfaction lingered, particularly around Brown's role and usage.
Production dips and frustration surfaces
Brown's situation is notable given his status within the organisation. Acquired in 2022, he quickly became the focal point of the passing game and one of the league's most reliable receivers.
The Eagles reaffirmed that commitment in April 2024, signing him to a three year, $96 million extension.
The following season, however, marked a downturn. Brown finished 2025 with 1,003 receiving yards, the second lowest total of his seven year career.
For a player accustomed to elite production, the decline only intensified frustration, which at times became visible on the sideline.
Hurts also faced growing scrutiny. In November, The Athletic's Diana Russini reported that multiple offensive players were becoming frustrated with his approach.
That sentiment resurfaced after the Eagles' wild card loss to the San Francisco 49ers, when The Athletic's Mike Silver echoed similar concerns.
"Jalen Hurts has been the source of much internal frustration for the Eagles, including teammates other than A.J. Brown, per @Mike Silver.
Coach Nick Sirianni, GM Howie Roseman, owner Jeffrey Lurie have been 'reluctant' to criticize Hurts," Silver noted.
From a statistical standpoint, Hurts delivered a solid regular season, throwing for 3,224 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.
But the offence often struggled to find rhythm, and those issues were magnified when the margin for error shrank.
