After A.J. Brown spoke with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie about wanting more offensive action to help his team win, Philadelphia threw passes to the veteran wide receiver during the game against the Lions on Sunday, November 17. However, the player struggled, and star quarterback Jalen Hurts attributed the difficulties to the coach.

The Eagles secured a 16-9 victory over the Lions, improving their record to 8-2, tied with the Rams for the best record in the NFC. This could serve as a preview of an NFC Championship Game this season. The Eagles had to earn it all, as their defense dominated against Detroit, who entered the game averaging 31.4 points per game.

Jalen Hurts points the finger at Kevin Patullo

Although the Eagles secured a victory over the Lions, it was clear that tensions were running high in the locker room. The Philadelphia Eagles' adjustments resulted in their wide receiver, A.J. Brown, being more of a target on the field. "Just going with the flow of the game and what was being called," Hurts revealed during the postgame interview. "I just go out there and try to execute."

Reporters questioned whether it wasn't a deliberate decision to give the receiver more targets. However, Hurts dodged the question. With his statement, he made it clear that the blame for the increased target selection could fall on offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, rather than himself. The Eagles were determined to focus attention on Brown, who was targeted a season-high 11 times, catching seven passes for 49 yards.

After two incomplete passes, Brown's third was a 12-yard reception. The Philadelphia crowd at Lincoln Financial Field erupted in cheers. Brown led the Eagles in receptions (7), receptions (11), and yards (49) in the Eagles' 16-9 victory. After the game, Brown clarified that he wasn't upset about his lack of receptions in the past. He was upset because he wanted to help the team win.

"It wasn't about the goals last week or the week before," Brown said. "It wasn't about that at all. It was about me trying to help and contribute. That's all. Regardless of how that looked in each phase, I think I did. But like I said, I think there are a lot of things that we, as an offense, and I, have to continue to improve on."
