Cam Skattebo made his stance clear as soon as the New York Giants' head coaching search came to an end, publicly embracing the arrival of John Harbaugh as a turning point for the franchise.

On Saturday, the second-year running back reposted the Giants' official announcement welcoming Harbaugh on his Instagram story and added a blunt message of approval.

"NEW F-ING ERA," Skattebo wrote.

The reaction captured the mood of a locker room eager for direction after a 4-13 season that left the Giants at the bottom of the division. For Skattebo, the optimism is rooted in opportunity.

Before a serious ankle injury ended his rookie year early, the 23-year-old showed promise, rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns in eight games. Now healthy and entering his second season, he will be playing for a coach with a Super Bowl pedigree and a reputation for demanding accountability.

After several days of negotiations, the Giants finalized Harbaugh's contract on Saturday afternoon.

According to Paul Schwartz of The New York Post, the deal is expected to span five years and be worth roughly $100 million, a clear statement of intent from ownership that this is a long-term commitment rather than a cautious experiment.

Harbaugh sets the tone with playoff expectations

In his first public comments since agreeing to the deal, Harbaugh balanced reverence for the organisation's history with urgency about the future.

"This is the New York Giants," Harbaugh told ESPN. "I'm proud and honored to be the head coach of this historic franchise, and especially excited to work with the Mara and Tisch families. But most of all, I can't wait to get started with the great players on this football team to see what we can accomplish together."

He doubled down on that message in an interview with The Athletic's Ian O'Connor, making it clear he does not view the Giants as a long-term rebuild despite last season's record.

"I think the Giants roster is strong and it's our job to make it stronger," Harbaugh said, according to O'Connor. "We are going to compete for the playoffs and for championships. I expect and want to make the playoffs next year."
