After the serious injury he suffered during the 2026 season, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill appeared to have his days numbered with the franchise. The situation became even more evident as the organization began a major overhaul aimed at bringing in new and younger talent.
Earlier this Monday, February 16, 2026, the news broke that the team had released defensive star Bradley Chubb, and now the Dolphins have also cut ties with Hill, ending their partnership.
The move was reported by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, and it is expected that the third major departure from the roster, by decision of the front office, could be quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Miami's eight-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released. Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career. His release will save the Dolphins $22.8 million against the salary cap
Tyreek Hill's release by the Dolphins is the second high-profile cut the Dolphins made today, along with Bradley Chubb. There are other potential candidates, but the most significant still up in the air is the future of QB Tua Tagovailoa, who already has $54M fully guaranteed to him in 2026.
The likely teams Tyreek Hill could join
Now that he is officially out of Miami, these are some of the possible destinations for Hill for the upcoming season.
Kansas City Chiefs
For some time, there had been talk about the receiver flirting with a return to what was once his home when he first arrived in the NFL. There, he won a Super Bowl alongside Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, and he may want to relive that success.
Having a receiver of his caliber would certainly be on the radar of the Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid if they consider bringing him back.
Buffalo Bills
Pairing him with Josh Allen would seem like a perfect, even expected, combination. The Bills need a high-level receiver, and Hill offers both elite production and game-changing speed, which could unlock even more of Allen's potential.
However, there is a minor complication. Hill has said in the past that he does not like Bills Mafia, and that could create obstacles for a move to the franchise.
Atlanta Falcons
With Kevin Stefanski arriving in Atlanta, Hill could become a new target for the organization. Alongside Michael Penix Jr., he could form a powerful duo capable of competing for the NFC South title.
For the receiver, it would also mean a return home and the chance to spend the final years of his career playing in Atlanta.
If none of these rumored teams becomes his next destination, more suitors will surely emerge, eager to secure his elite services and elevate their quarterback's performance.
