The Kansas City Chiefs endured a disappointing, painful 2025 season. It all began with two consecutive losses that many initially saw as nothing more than a minor slump.

However, the issue ran far deeper than a simple setback. Everything worsened with Patrick Mahomes' injury, a torn ACL and LCL that ruled him out for the remainder of the season. But that was not the only problem.

There were also depth issues in both the running game and the passing attack. Everything collapsed for a franchise that had dominated for an entire decade. Now, during this offseason, that narrative appears to be shifting as they look ahead to the 2026 campaign.

The Chiefs reinvent themselves

This past Monday, March 23, 2026, it was officially announced that Travis Kelce is returning to continue supporting Patrick Mahomes and the team in their pursuit of another Super Bowl.

It is also important to highlight that the Chiefs did not have a single receiver surpass 1,000 yards.

  • Hollywood Brown: 587 yards
  • Rashee Rice: 571 yards
  • Xavier Worthy: 532 yards

For that reason, they are searching for a wide receiver who can guarantee a return to dominance in the league through consistent playmaking. In fact, Brown has already left the franchise and joined the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs target an elite receiver in the 2026 Draft

On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, ESPN reporter Field Yates provided an update on how the draft could unfold according to his projections. Based on his evaluation, the Chiefs would select Arizona State Sun Devils wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the ninth overall pick.

The Chiefs are in desperate need of more big-play receivers, as Xavier Worthy hasn't been a consistent sparkplug for them the past two seasons."... "Tyson is the most explosive wide receiver in the draft and neck and neck with Carnell Tate for WR1 in my rankings. He has very good size, acceleration, unique run-after-catch skills and field-stretching ability.

Field Yates

Yates said. The receiver began his college career with the Colorado Buffaloes before playing his final three seasons at Arizona State.

Tyson dealt with a hamstring injury in 2025 and previously suffered a broken collarbone and ACL tear, but he changes an offense when healthy."... "He had 50 catches, 732 yards and six touchdowns in the final six games of the 2024 season.

Field Yates

Yates concluded.

  • 158 receptions
  • 2,282 yards
  • 22 touchdowns

With his addition, if it materializes, it would allow the Chiefs' offense to return to the NFL's elite tier.

Such a move would not only address their immediate need at the wide receiver position but also provide Mahomes with a dynamic target capable of transforming offensive schemes and restoring the explosive identity that once defined Kansas City's championship-caliber teams.
