Winning a championship in the NFL is a complicated endeavor. All 32 franchises prepare intensely to compete for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Every team enters as a contender from Week 1, and reaching the Super Bowl is a monumental task.

Once that goal is achieved, most players are expected to remain with the team in pursuit of another title. However, that is not always the case, as roster changes often occur due to salary cap considerations.

That is exactly what happened to safety Coby Bryant, who had to leave the reigning champions, the Seattle Seahawks, and head to the Windy City to join the surprising Chicago Bears.

Coby Bryant's move from Seattle to Chicago

In a recent interview with Kay Adams on her show Up & Adams, the host asked about the safety about the reasons behind his departure from the defending champions and his decision to join the Bears.

His response was blunt. The defensive player stated that he felt wanted, something his previous team may not have fully conveyed.

Just the sense of being wanted, honestly. They called me at 7 a.m. I'm in Arizona, so they called me pretty early, which I had just woken up. And you know, that struck me right there, honestly.

Just like I said, just being wanted and them pursuing to, you know, get me over there. It wasn't easy, you know, obviously, being in Seattle for four years, but ultimately I'm blessed and, you know, that's what led me to Chicago.

When he learned he had been signed to a three-year, 40-million-dollar deal with Chicago, Bryant was in Arizona and described the excitement of playing for his new head coach, Ben Johnson, alongside quarterback Caleb Williams.

Like I said, I was just waking up, so I was kind of, you know, still asleep at the time. But just, you know, them telling me how much they want me to be there, you know, what I could bring to the team, you know, just being a leader for the team as well, too.

And, you know, I already saw what they were building from day one, you know, with the team last year as well, too, with, you know, Ben and Caleb Williams, all those guys. That's definitely going to be special, and I'm excited to be a part of it." A major boost for the Chicago Bears' defense

The Bears struggled significantly on the defensive side of the ball, and with the addition of Coby Bryant, they now have a strong opportunity to become contenders for the NFC crown. This move could greatly improve their chances of competing for a championship.

Bryant entered the NFL in the 2022 draft with the Seattle Seahawks and has compiled the following career numbers:

  • 227 tackles
  • 4 seasons with the Seahawks
  • 2 sacks
  • 7 forced fumbles

His best season was undoubtedly in 2025, when he delivered outstanding statistics:

  • 4 interceptions
  • Champion with Seattle

Now in Chicago, expectations are high that he will maintain the same level of intensity and professionalism, helping the team regain prominence on defense and establish itself as a formidable force in the conference once again, moving forward this season
