Flag football continues to gain traction around the world. Both girls and boys have found great satisfaction and love in the sport. That is why it has now been included as an official discipline for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
This past Saturday, the Fanatics Flag Football Classic took place at BMO Stadium, featuring the participation of several current and former NFL players. Team USA in the discipline was also present.
As expected, the event captured public attention, and there were outstanding plays on the field. Darrell Doucette, the captain of Team USA, was also present and helped lead his team to the championship.
Darrell Doucette clarifies the comments he made about Patrick Mahomes
In August 2024, the quarterback of the United States flag football team said he was better than Patrick Mahomes. As often happens in these situations, a year and a half later, he had to clarify those remarks.
During the post-championship press conference, Doucette addressed his previous comments about Mahomes, while also expressing gratitude to the NFL for allowing them to participate in the tournament and showcase their skills.
I'm honored, and grateful, to be here."..."(Thanks to) Fanatics and NFL for giving me this opportunity. Me, my teammates, the flag football world, they gave us a great opportunity to showcase our sport.
I made some remarks back in 2023, it was totally misconstrued and misunderstood."..."All I was speaking about was giving my brothers a fair chance to make 2028 (LA Olympics). We came out this weekend with that on our mind.
To say, 'Let's show these guys we are talented. That we are flag football.' And not to be overlooked by anyone in the world.
It is worth remembering that in 2022, led by Doucette, Team USA won the gold medal at the World Games.
I feel like I'm better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game."..."I know he's right now the best in the (NFL), I know he's more accurate, I know he has all these intangibles. But when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.
Darrell Doucette said to TMZ in August 2024.
Frankly, the comparison he made with Mahomes has little to do with reality. Perhaps he was carried away by the passion of the moment and now found it necessary to clarify his words, especially after renewed attention following this event and his team's success on the field.
