Michigan secure Aday Mara replacement, despite Spaniard not committing to NBA Draft yet

Dusty May has brought in yet another talented big man to fortify the Wolverines after winning the National Championship.

It started becoming apparent that the Michigan Wolverines were a true forced to be reckoned with as the 2025-26 college basketball season grew shorter. Once the NCAA Tournament rolled around, there wasn't a single team that could stop them.

The UConn Huskies gave Dusty May's team all it could handle, but it wasn't close to enough against a supremely talented team. May is a huge reason Michigan accomplished what they did, as the transfer portal played a vital role. May brought in four starters through the portal last offseason: Elliot Cadeau, Yaxel Lendeborg, Morez Johnson Jr. and Aday Mara.

Ahead of next season, more changes are abound. Lendeborg is out of college eligibility, as are Nimari Burnett, Roddy Gayle Jr. and Will Tschetter. Cadeau is expected to return to school, which would be a huge sigh of relief for May. Then there's Johnson and Mara, the dynamic frontcourt duo that could capitalize on their title run and enter the 2026 NBA Draft.

Tennessee's JP Estrella commits to Michigan

They haven't made their decisions yet, but May very well could be pushing at least one of them slightly out the door with a recent frontcourt addition. J.P. Estrella, the talented 6-foot-11 center who broke out this past season for the Tennessee Volunteers, has committed to play at Michigan next year.

Estrella was an imporant role player for Tennessee during their tournament run to the Elite Eight, where they fell to Michigan. May clearly liked what he saw in Estrella's 25 minutes against the Wolverines.

Bringing in Estrella doesn't mean Johnson or Mara will struggle to find playing time if they stay for another season, but the 21-year-old could definitely take a large chunk of frontcourt minutes if his upwards trajectory continues.
