- NCAA. Who is Jaffer Murphy, the college kicker who broke conventional wisdom at UTSA's Pro Day?
If it felt like Carson Beck was in college for a very long time, it's because he was. He initially walked on campus at Georgia in 2020, and he's just now getting set to be selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
No one is quite sure where Beck will be picked. Some believe he could go as early as Round 1, while others are projecting him as a late round pick. That wide range of opinions on him extends to the league as well, as notable draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah has placed Beck on a Top 5 list of most polarizing players in the draft.
Jordyn Tyson among most polarizing players in upcoming draft due to injuries
Jeremiah is as plugged-in as any other analyst or reporter when it comes to draft stuff, so his post shouldn't be taken with a grain of salt. He clarified in a later response that "these guys elicit a lot of variety of opinions around the league". So front office executives and coaches have mixed feelings on the players mentioned.
They make sense for the most part. Cashius Howell has very short arms for an EDGE player. Peter Woods refused to work out at the NFL Combine. Kadyn Proctor's weight has been an issue in his past. And Jordyn Tyson can't seem to stay healthy.
Beck is polarizing likely due to his inconsistent success in college. Despite being around for six seasons, he only became a starter as a redshirt junior at Georgia. A strong 2023 was followed by regression in 2024 and an ill-timed elbow injury. He then put it all together with the Miami Hurricanes, but it was in an offense that Cam Ward also excelled in the year before.
It's fair to wonder what Beck's true ceiling in the NFL will be, but it's not as if he's considered that high of a draft pick. Most believe he will go around the third round, although anything can happen if a team falls in love with him in the pre-draft process.
