In 2025, Arch Manning endured a complicated year from a football standpoint in his early stages. There was a great deal of talk about him during the offseason, which is believed to have unsettled him. In the first three games, he could not find his rhythm, and it was one poor performance after another.
All the praise he received in the previous months faded away. Likewise, the expectation that he would become the number one pick in the 2026 draft was completely discarded.
Nothing was working. Even Sarkisian said he needed to step in and help his player regain his center so they could begin rebuilding from that point and start winning games. The strategy ultimately paid off.
His quarterback regained his level of play, and victories became a constant from that point through the end of the season, although it was not enough to secure a spot in the CFP postseason. For the 2026 season, his name once again emerges as a potential number one pick for the 2027 draft, though this time he will face much stronger competition.
The 2027 class will be one of a kind
There is significant talent across different college programs heading into the 2026 season. It will depend on each player and what they can accomplish alongside their teammates to determine who can aspire to become the number one overall pick.
The pool of players aiming for a place in the NFL in 2027 will be filled with pure talent and quality. That is why every game will be crucial to maintaining visibility in front of the league's 32 franchises.
Several signal-callers, with both their arms and legs, will have the opportunity to aim for the top of the draft:
- Arch Manning
- Dante Moore
- Julian Sayin
- Brendan Sorsby
- LaNorris Sellers
- Trinidad Chambliss
- Jayden Maiava
- CJ Carr
As can be seen, securing the number one spot will be anything but easy. Eight options will be given their best to reach that prestigious position.
At least based on what was seen with Arch Manning, pressure got the better of him when he was in the conversation to be the top pick. Will he be able to handle it better in 2026? That remains to be seen.
For the Longhorns, the schedule appears challenging, with very difficult road games that could become major obstacles. At the same time, they will host programs considered among the best in the nation.
That is why, starting now with spring programs, they must be fully focused and mentally prepared, understanding that there is no margin for defeat, as losses could now mean falling out of championship contention.
For Manning in particular, he will need to work extensively on managing stress and focus on taking things game by game so the struggles that haunted the start of his 2025 season do not return.
