A new scandal has rocked college football. Amidst the controversies surrounding Sherrone Moore and the sign-stealing scandal at Michigan, among others, the NCAA now has to deal with the unexpected resignation of Ohio State President Walter "Ted" Carter Jr. due to an "inappropriate relationship."
The Buckeyes are one of the most successful programs in recent years. With Ryan Day as head coach, the team won the 2024-2025 national championship and reached the College Football Playoff in 2025-2026.
As for the university, it is the sixth-largest in the country, with more than 60,000 students and over 600,000 graduates, in addition to a world-renowned medical center.
Much of this is due to Carter's administration. Under his leadership, the institution has not only maintained its prestige but has grown on all fronts. However, today a stain has tarnished his work.
Why did Ted Carter Jr. resign from Ohio State?
In a statement released today, the president of Ohio State said he was voluntarily resigning, explaining that it was due to an "inappropriate relationship" with a woman who was seeking public funds for her private business.
For personal reasons, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my role as president of the Ohio State University.
He also stated, "I disclosed to the board of trustees that I made a mistake in allowing inappropriate access to Ohio State leadership." However, he did not provide details about that relationship.
The Buckeyes under Carter's leadership
Carter arrived in Columbus in January 2024 after a long career in the U.S. Navy. In these two years, the football team compiled a 26-4 record, including the CFP.
In 2024-2025, the team won the national championship, defeating the Michigan Wolverines in the final. In the 2025-2026 season, they reached the CFP quarterfinals, where they lost to the Miami Hurricanes.
Now, the university must implement immediate damage control measures, trying to minimize the impact of this new scandal on sensitive areas of the institution, including the football program.
