Arch Manning's presence at the Moody Center has quickly become a highlight for Texas fans, but his latest visit brought disappointment as the Longhorns fell 85-88 in a hard-fought loss to their archrivals, the Oklahoma Sooners, leaving the star quarterback frustrated.

Manning's passion for basketball is well-known. He often joins pickup games on campus and supports the Longhorns at home contests, bringing energy that shifts the atmosphere in the arena for players and spectators alike.

"I was walking across the street last week, and somebody yelled my name: 'Coach Miller! Coach Miller!' I turned around, and it was Arch Manning," Coach Sean Miller told Jeff Goodman. "He's a huge basketball fan.

Arch Manning shows that he is him with a very impressive play for Texas

"We came together, and he said, 'Welcome to Texas. I'm a big basketball fan.' He was with a couple of his friends. He said, 'Hey, do you mind if we sneak in and play pickup once in a while?' I said, 'Anytime, anytime.'"

Manning's dedication to basketball is rooted in his high school days at Isidore Newman, where he won a state title. His interest in joining campus pickup games highlights a genuine love for the sport beyond football stardom.

However, he couldn't inspire the Longhorns to what would have been their 19th win of the season if they had just managed to hold on.

Even with Chendall Weaver's spectacular alley-oop dunk giving Texas a six-point lead, defensive breakdowns proved costly. Guard Jordan Pope scored 30 points and hit three clutch free throws to force overtime, but it wasn't enough to secure the win.

The defeat echoes a pattern for Texas, who also lost 105-85 to Texas A&M earlier this week. For Manning and fans, the Red River Rivalry on the hardwood carries the same intense energy and rivalry as the football matchup, deepening the sting of consecutive losses.

Arch Manning already drawing attention in 2027 NFL Draft

Meanwhile on the football field, the NFL's 2026 Draft prospects were in Indianapolis, scouts were also eyeing the 2027 class too - particularly Texas' Manning.

Experts continue to view him as an elite quarterback prospect who could have been a top pick in 2026, with some considering throwing a year away if it means they secure his services.

"If you're asking, 'Can they just ride it out and waste a year in the hopes of landing Arch Manning in 2027?' the answer is yes," an NFL executive told Fox's Ralph Vacchiano. "But not if they like their jobs."

Quarterback-needy teams may struggle to wait. Only a few clubs can risk delaying, as players, coaches, and owners demand immediate success. The long-term futures of franchises hinge on careful draft and free-agent decisions.

Across sports, Manning's enthusiasm and performance make him a central figure in Texas athletics, yet the season's early setbacks show that even stars face challenges in supporting their teams.
