The fallout from the coaching crisis at the University of Michigan continues to reshape the athletic department as the school officially distances itself from the remaining figures in the Sherrone Moorescandal.
On Thursday, a university spokesperson reportedly confirmed that the contract for Paige Shiver, the staff member identified in the investigation that led to Moore's termination, has expired and will not be renewed.
This move comes as Moore prepares for a critical evidentiary hearing scheduled for Friday, where a Michigan judge is expected to review the specific findings that resulted in several criminal charges against the former coach according to TMZ.
Moore's tenure as head coach ended abruptly in December 2025 when he was fired for cause. The university's internal investigation concluded that he had engaged in an "inappropriate relationship" with Shiver.
According to reports, the relationship became public only after it had ended, at which point Shiver reportedly presented school officials with evidence documenting their involvement. The subsequent firing triggered a series of alarming events that have since moved from the athletic director's office to the criminal justice system.
Evidentiary hearing looms as criminal charges move forward
The situation escalated significantly in the hours following Moore's dismissal. Prosecutors allege that the 40-year-old former coach drove to Shiver's apartment and forced his way into the residence. According to court filings, Moore then entered the kitchen, brandished several butter knives and scissors, and allegedly threatened to take his own life in front of her. "I am going to kill myself. I'm going to make you watch. My blood is on your hands. You ruined my life," Moore reportedly stated during the encounter.
These allegations led to Moore's arrest on three serious counts: home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. The upcoming Friday hearing is expected to shed more light on the evidence gathered by the university and local law enforcement regarding the night of the incident.
The emotional toll of the scandal was captured in a 911 call placed by Moore's wife, Kelli, who contacted authorities in a state of panic after her husband called her following his firing. During the call, Kelli expressed fear that Moore was in a mental health crisis and might harm himself while driving on the highway.
"He just called me saying he got fired from his job, and he's in crisis. I told him that I love him and that I need him to come home, but I don't know where he is," she said.
