After a bittersweet 2025 in which the hype surrounding Arch Manningcollided with the reality of a porous offensive line, the Texas Longhorns have decided to leave nothing to chance with one clear objective for 2026: return to the NCAA Playoffs after suffering a tough blow last season.

Steve Sarkisianhas executed his biggest move in the transfer portal since his arrival, recruiting 19 key pieces that place Texas with the third-best transfer class in the nation, all with the intention of building a team that is balanced-both on offense, where Manning has proven to be a guarantee and will now have Cam Coleman as a receiver, and in protection as well.

To protect Manning, Melvin Siani (Wake Forest) arrives, a wall who did not allow a single sack in 13 games, along with All-American Laurence Seymore, whose veteran presence will be vital on the interior.

The ground attack, a weak point last year, now features two high-potential players: Raleek Brown (1,141 yards in 2025) and Hollywood Smothers, who turned down Alabama to join the Longhorns.

On defense, the arrival of linebacker Rasheem Biles is the masterstroke: a headhunter coming off a 100-tackle season and three defensive touchdowns with Pittsburgh, joined in the secondary by solid cornerback Bo Mascoe.

Why David Pollack believes Texas will return to the Playoffs in 2026

For the respected analyst from See Ball Get Ball, the Longhorns' return to the elite is not a possibility but a logical consequence of structural changes within the program. David Pollack identifies three fundamental pillars supporting his prediction:

  • Protection for Arch Manning: Pollack argues that criticism of the young quarterback in 2025 was unfair, as his offensive line graded 20 points lower than he did, according to PFF. With Siani and Seymore, Manning will finally have the time necessary to unleash his elite arm talent.
  • "Home Run" weapons: The analyst points out that the lack of a reliable receiver in critical moments was addressed with Coleman. Additionally, the versatility of Raleek Brown and Smothers will force opposing defenses to avoid focusing solely on the pass, balancing Sarkisian's scheme.
  • The "Muschamp Effect": Perhaps the point that excites Pollack the most is the hiring of Will Muschamp as defensive coordinator. Pollack believes Muschamp will inject a culture of aggressiveness and "fire" that the team previously lacked. Unlike the former conservative system, the new scheme-built on exotic blitzes and constant pressure-promises to suffocate SEC quarterbacks.

With a roster renewed across every unit and a far more physical mindset, Texas is going all-in for 2026. For Pollack, the Longhorns have stopped being a team with potential and have become a legitimate national title contender.
