Rocky, turbulent, full of ups and downs. That was the beginning of Arch Manning's and the Texas Longhorns' 2025 season. Losses and uneven performances from the quarterback triggered a wave of intense criticism. In the end, that shaky start kept them out of the College Football Playoff, forcing them to watch from home as the undefeated Indiana Hoosiers claimed the national title.
After three difficult and puzzling games, stability finally arrived for the Longhorns and their signal-caller. From that point forward, victories became the norm, as did Manning's strong performances.
The voices projecting him as the top prospect for the 2026 NFL Draft gradually quieted. Ultimately, he chose to remain in school for another year and complete his full collegiate cycle.
Now, as the 2026 season approaches, a credible voice to assess Arch Manning's progress is his uncle, two-time Super Bowl champion and former New York Giants star Eli Manning.
Eli Manning speaks about his nephew Arch Manning's near future
Although several months remain before the 2026 campaign kicks off, Eli Manning already views his nephew Arch as a key piece for the Longhorns, one who will undoubtedly help them return to national prominence.
I'm excited for him. You know why, Coach? Because I saw him get better every single week."... "And that's what college is about. It's about learning. It's not always going to be easy. You've got to make the mistakes...go through tough times. And that's what makes you better...appreciate the wins and the hard work. I've got to grind every week because I know if I don't, I can go out there and embarrass myself and play badly. And so you learn you don't want to do that. And you work your tail off.
Manning said of Arch on Jon Gruden's YouTube channel.
Gruden asked Eli about Arch's development with the Longhorns and also highlighted his ability to throw and run the football effectively. He added that the support of his teammates has been vital to his significant progress.
Concerning that support, it can be seen in:
- He feels more comfortable operating the system
- There is greater confidence in the locker room
- He spends more time in meetings refining details
The progress he has made over three years at Texas has been substantial for Arch, who began his career on the bench. He was behind Quinn Ewers and Maalik Murphy, though in his second season he had the opportunity to start two games.
Predictions place Arch Manning as the favorite for the 2027 draft
According to several reports, Arch Manning is projected as the quarterback who could emerge as the No. 1 pick in the 2027 draft. Caution, however, is still warranted. The events of 2026 remain a reminder.
While both Arch and his team managed to recover, the pressure ultimately proved overwhelming. Now more mature, he still faces added scrutiny. If he navigates it successfully, then placing him in that position of honor would be justified.
Eli emphasized his nephew's final five games of the 2025 season. In those contests, he accounted for 15 touchdowns against four of the nation's top 25 programs.
I'm excited for him."... "I think he's going to have a big year this year and has a bright future.
Eli Manning said.
Now, all that remains is to see what unfolds from the outset of the 2026 season for Arch and his performance in what will be his final journey through the collegiate ranks.
