- NCAA. Shedeur Sanders is the reason Deion gives NFL the cold shoulder
- NCAA. Arch Manning's Texas Longhorns no longer the clear-cut top team heading into 2026
Hitting a home run in your debut for your new team is one thing. Hitting a grand slam is another. Hitting multiple home runs in the same game is unimaginable. But hitting three home runs, with all three being grand slams, is simply incomprehensible - and nearly unprecedented.
That's exactly what Tyce Armstrong did on Friday night. Playing in his first game as a member of the Baylor Bears, Armstrong rounded the bases three times, clearing the bases all three times. His final round-tripper ended the game on the mercy rule, as Baylor opened its season with a 15-2 win over New Mexico State.
Shockingly, another player had previously hit three grand slams in a single game. Jim LaFountain did the same thing for Louisville back in 1976. Armstrong and LaFountain's feat has never been replicated in Major League Baseball, though.
LaFountain was later inducted into Louisville's Athletics Hall of Fame. Armstrong is hoping to have a similar impact at Baylor, even if it's just for one season. Unfortunately for him, it can't possibly get better than his debut. That said, Armstrong has put himself on the radar just before he's set to enter the MLB Draft.
Tyce Armstrong transferred to Baylor from Texas-Arlington for 2026 NCAA season
The first baseman prides himself on his bat, having been named an All-WAC Second Team designated hitter in 2025. He spent the past three seasons at Texas-Arlington before transferring to Baylor ahead of the 2026 season.
Armstrong hit .354 in 24 games as a 19-year-old for UTA, then had a bit of a down year in 2024 before putting it all together in 2025 to the tune of a .319/12/46 slash line.
While it's only been one game, Armstrong looks like a very strong addition for a Baylor team that hasn't made the NCAA tournament since 2019. So far, so good for Armstrong and the Bears in 2026.
