White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared on social network X an account that has generated debate about the possible use of an unknown weapon during the capture of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
The post, retweeted by Leavitt and cited by the New York Post, describes surprising effects on Venezuelan forces, although its veracity has not been officially confirmed.
According to the US media report, an alleged member of the Venezuelan forces claimed that the weapon caused immediate physical effects. In his words, some soldiers were "bleeding from the nose" and "vomiting blood" after the activation of a device that the witness could not identify.
The testimony also describes the sequence of the operation: the inexplicable deactivation of radar systems, followed by the overflight of drones and the arrival of helicopters that deployed about 20 US soldiers.
Regarding the technology used, the witness claimed that it had "never before seen" capabilities, which would have allowed it to neutralize a greater number of combatants. At one point in the story, he said that what he described as a kind of "intense sound wave" was activated, after which several soldiers reportedly collapsed physically.
The New York Postemphasizes that there is no official confirmation that such a weapon was used or that the reported deaths are directly linked to the device. The media outlet also cites a source linked to US intelligence, who noted that there are directed energy weapons - such as microwave or laser-based systems - capable of causing some of the symptoms described, although he "avoided saying" that they were used in this case.
For now, the White House has not clarified whether the release of the testimony implies a validation of its content, while the Venezuelan government previously reported dozens of deaths following the operation, without detailing the specific causes.
The US media outlet itself warns that the account corresponds to a witness's version and that its veracity remains uncertain.
