- Celebrities. Rihanna's cart got stolen during a grocery run in LA
Pop superstar Rihanna faced a terrifying ordeal at her Beverly Hills residence on Sunday afternoon when gunfire rang out near her home, law enforcement sources confirm.
A 30-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly firing multiple rounds from a rifle toward the singer's mansion in the exclusive Post Office neighborhood of Beverly Hills, California. Authorities say one bullet even pierced the exterior wall of the property.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 1:20 p.m. on March 8, dispatching officers to the scene promptly. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who had fired an estimated 10 rounds from a white Tesla parked across the street from the gated property, and took her into custody without further incident.
Rihanna, 38, was inside the home at the time of the shooting but was unharmed. Police have confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Family sources told local media that Rihanna, along with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their three children - RZA, 3, Riot Rose, 2, and 5-month-old Rocki Irish Mayers - are safe and accounted for.
Streets surrounding the property were temporarily closed as law enforcement cordoned off the area and investigated the scene. Authorities have recovered the weapon used and are working to determine the motive behind the attack.
The ongoing concern of celebrity home security
This incident highlights the ongoing security risks faced by high-profile figures. Rihanna has experienced prior frightening encounters at her residences.
In 2018, a 27-year-old man reportedly climbed over a fence into her Hollywood Hills property while she was away and remained inside for approximately 12 hours before being discovered by a member of her staff. The intruder later pleaded no contest to stalking charges and received a 10-year restraining order barring him from approaching the singer.
In addition to her personal experiences, Rihanna has spoken openly about how motherhood has strengthened her resolve to protect her family. In a 2022 interview with Teen Vogue, she noted her determination to defend her children at all costs, referencing Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice as an inspiration.
"She will flatten you about those kids," Rihanna said, adding that she intends to take a similar no-nonsense approach as a mother.
While the motive behind Sunday's shooting remains under investigation, the rapid police response likely prevented a more serious outcome. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have not issued public statements regarding the incident, and it is unclear if anyone besides the singer and her family members were inside the home at the time.
Fans and neighbors alike are waiting for updates as law enforcement works to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shocking attack.
