Years go by, and Josh Allen still can't seem to break through in the playoffs. This defeat stings more than ever, especially since Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson weren't even in the picture. Allen and the Bills were eliminated in the divisional round by Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos in overtime, falling just short of the AFC Championship.

Josh Allen takes the blame after Bills loss as emotional teammates rally behind him

The game went into overtime, and the Bills ultimately lost on a Will Lutz field goal. Unfortunately, the blame falls largely on Josh Allen, who kept the team in the game but committed four turnovers-two fumbles and two interceptions. Winning in today's NFL is extremely difficult when mistakes pile up like that.

The play that changed the game came in overtime with the score tied 30-30. Allen threw a deep pass intended for Brandin Cooks, aiming to set up a field goal position. Cooks appeared to catch the ball, but cornerback Ja'Quan McMillian ended up stealing it. It was a controversial moment, but the referees awarded the ball to Denver, leading to the game-winning field goal.

Dion Dawkins offers words of support to his quarterback

After the loss, tears in his eyes, Josh Allen apologized to his team for how the game ended: "I feel like I let my teammates down tonight. Missed opportunities throughout the game. It's been a long season. I hate how it ended and it's gonna stick with me for a long time... You can't win with five turnovers. I fumbled twice, threw two picks. When you shoot yourself in the foot like that, you don't deserve to win football games... I love my teammates."

Following Allen's emotional statement, which went viral on social media, his teammates defended him. One of them, left tackle Dion Dawkins, said: "He didn't let us down."

This is undoubtedly a painful blow for Josh Allen, especially since he was the early favorite to reach the Super Bowl in the AFC at the start of the season. Failing to make it to the decisive game and compete for the first Vince Lombardi Trophy in Bills history is a bitter setback for the current NFL MVP.

To make matters worse, Allen is now 0-7 in career overtime games, including 3 in the playoffs. His dream of winning the Vince Lombardi Trophy will be increasingly difficult, especially with Mahomes, Burrow, Jackson, and Nix returning next season-and now adding Drake Maye to the mix.
